Circle to Acquire Tazapay in $400 Million All-Stock Deal
Circle is acquiring cross-border payments platform Tazapay in an all-stock transaction valued at $400 million, a deal that could bring more than $25 billion in annual payment volume into Circle’s network and expand the reach of its USDC stablecoin.
Stablecoin Payments at the Center of the Deal
Approximately 60% of Tazapay’s transactions already involve stablecoins, according to the companies. The acquisition would give Circle additional access to businesses and payment flows using digital currencies for cross-border transactions.
USDC is a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. Stablecoins are designed to maintain a relatively stable value compared with more volatile cryptocurrencies and are used for payments, settlement and transfers across blockchain networks.
Expansion Across Emerging Markets
Tazapay operates across more than 100 markets, including countries in Asia and Africa. Its network could help Circle extend USDC’s use in regions where cross-border payments and access to traditional financial infrastructure remain fragmented.
The transaction would also add Tazapay’s payment relationships and transaction volume to Circle’s broader stablecoin and financial-services ecosystem.
Transaction Structure
The acquisition is structured as an all-stock deal with a reported value of $400 million. The companies did not provide additional details on the timing of the transaction or its expected closing conditions in the information available.
