Allunity Launches SEKAU: First MiCA-Compliant SEK Stablecoin

Allunity has launched SEKAU, a Swedish krona-backed stablecoin issued as a regulated e‑money token under the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) framework. The token is backed 1:1 by segregated SEK reserves and is set to debut across five blockchain networks, with an initial focus on institutional payments and settlement use cases.

MiCA-Compliant SEK Stablecoin

SEKAU is structured as an e‑money token, a category under MiCA that requires full reserve backing and redemption at par value. By aligning with MiCA’s stablecoin rules, which came into force for e‑money and asset‑referenced tokens in 2024, the offering targets a regulated pathway for on-chain Swedish krona transactions within the EU.

Reserves and Redemption

According to Allunity, SEKAU maintains 1:1 backing with segregated SEK reserves. The structure is designed to support redemption at face value and provide clarity on reserve management in line with MiCA’s prudential and safeguarding requirements.

Institutional Payments and Multi-Chain Rollout

Allunity positions SEKAU for institutional payments, settlements, and treasury applications. The stablecoin will launch across five blockchain networks at inception, aiming to support interoperability and integrations across exchanges, payment processors, and custodians.

European Stablecoin Landscape

The launch expands Allunity’s European stablecoin lineup and underscores the growing push to bring fiat-denominated tokens under harmonized EU rules. MiCA’s regime for e‑money tokens sets licensing, reserve, and disclosure standards intended to bolster transparency and consumer protections while enabling regulated digital payments in local currencies such as the Swedish krona.
