NYSE Parent ICE Considers Avalanche for Tokenized Securities Trading Platform
Intercontinental Exchange (ICE), the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), is evaluating Avalanche as a potential blockchain network for a trading and settlement platform designed to support 24/7 trading of tokenized securities.
Avalanche Under Consideration for On-Chain Settlement
Michael Blaugrund, ICE’s vice president of strategic initiatives, said the company was considering using Avalanche to host the platform, which remains under development. The proposed system would combine trading functionality with on-chain settlement for digital representations of securities.
Tokenized securities are blockchain-based representations of traditional financial assets, such as equities or bonds. By recording ownership and settlement activity on a blockchain, market operators can potentially streamline transactions and support trading outside conventional exchange hours.
Potential Expansion of Blockchain-Based Markets
The initiative reflects continued interest among traditional financial institutions in using blockchain technology for securities markets. If implemented, the platform could allow eligible tokenized assets to trade continuously rather than being limited to the operating hours of traditional stock exchanges.
ICE has not announced a final decision regarding the blockchain network that would support the platform, and no launch date or detailed product specifications have been disclosed.
