Kraken Plans CFTC-Regulated Perpetual Futures for US Pros

Kraken said it plans to launch CFTC-regulated crypto perpetual futures in the United States through derivatives venue Bitnomial, giving eligible professional traders domestic access to perpetual contracts.

Access to Onshore Crypto Perpetuals

The planned rollout would route trading through Bitnomial, a CFTC-regulated U.S. exchange. By leveraging an onshore venue, Kraken aims to make perpetual futures—long a mainstay of offshore crypto derivatives markets—available domestically to eligible professional participants.

What Are Perpetual Futures?

Perpetual futures are derivative contracts that do not have a fixed expiration date. Instead of settling on a set schedule, they use periodic funding payments between long and short positions to keep contract prices aligned with the underlying asset. These instruments allow traders to take leveraged long or short exposure without rolling positions at expiry.

Regulatory Framework and Eligibility

Offering the products on a CFTC-regulated exchange subjects both the contracts and market participants to U.S. commodities laws and market integrity rules. Access to the planned offering is intended for eligible professional traders and will depend on standard onboarding and compliance requirements.
