US and UK Launch Joint Alliance to Target Crypto Scam Centers

U.S. and U.K. authorities have formed a joint alliance to target large-scale cryptocurrency scam operations, committing to run parallel investigations, expand information sharing, and coordinate a private-sector disruption initiative in London in October.

Coordinated Enforcement and Intelligence Sharing

The cross-border agreement is designed to accelerate casework against organized fraud networks that rely on digital assets and international money flows. By aligning investigative timelines and exchanging operational intelligence, the partners aim to shorten the window for scammers to move funds, dismantle infrastructure more quickly, and support faster victim remediation where possible.

Focus on Crypto-Enabled Fraud

The initiative zeroes in on schemes that leverage cryptocurrencies to launder proceeds and obscure payment trails, including romance-investment scams commonly referred to as “pig-butchering,” spoofed trading platforms, and coordinated social-engineering campaigns. Law enforcement agencies in both countries have warned that these operations are often transnational, technologically sophisticated, and capable of inflicting significant consumer losses.

Industry Engagement Planned in London

As part of the alliance, officials plan a private-sector disruption operation in London in October. The effort is expected to engage exchanges, blockchain analytics firms, payment providers, and other relevant platforms to improve rapid reporting, enhance on-chain tracing, and enable coordinated account freezes and takedowns.

Why It Matters

Crypto-enabled fraud exploits the speed and borderless nature of digital assets, making unilateral enforcement less effective. A synchronized U.S.–U.K. approach seeks to raise the cost and risk for scammers by closing jurisdictional gaps, hardening industry defenses, and accelerating the identification and seizure of illicit funds.
